Autodidact · Pattern Weaver · Practical Systems Goblin

A personal site for the strange little tapestry I call a life.

Greetings! My name is Cesar Villalpando. This is where technology, science, philosophy, martial arts, speculative fiction, left-wing politics, music, and other intellectual debris wash ashore and somehow end up organized.

Professional portrait of Cesar Villalpando
Cesar Villalpando Infrastructure tinkerer. Systems thinker. Mildly suspicious of simple answers.

Not a list of traits. More like a suspiciously well-lit evidence board.

I like understanding how things fit together: computers, people, institutions, habits, tools, stories, and the tiny disasters that appear when any of them touch. My mind tends to move at the macro level. I am less interested in collecting isolated facts and more interested in the pattern underneath them.

I drive for Metro Micro, study Northern Eagle Claw Kung Fu, run Linux systems, experiment with local AI, and keep building little pieces of infrastructure because apparently I enjoy converting free time into maintenance obligations.

The recurring themes

Technology & Infrastructure

Linux, self-hosting, containers, servers, open-source tools, local AI, and the quiet satisfaction of making computers obey without paying rent to a cloud landlord.

Ideas & Systems

Science, philosophy, empiricism, governance models, economics, cybernetics, humanism, and left-wing politics. Basically: how civilization works, malfunctions, and occasionally catches fire.

Culture & Imagination

Anime, science fiction, Star Trek, Star Wars, industrial metal, alternative rock, electronic music, and stories about people trying to survive systems bigger than themselves.

Mustard and Chiquilín

Mustard is the golden, fluffy elder statesman: calm, affectionate, picky, and built like a tiny retired landlord. Chiquilín is white and cream, energetic, playful, and powered by some legally questionable internal reactor.

They keep the household grounded. Or at least covered in fur. Same thing, spiritually.

Current orbit

Homelab & Self-Hosting

Personal infrastructure, Caddy, containers, internal services, DNS, remote access, and the sacred art of making one machine pretend to be twelve.

Local AI Experiments

Local models, OpenWebUI, datasets, RAG files, fine-tuning experiments, and the gradual construction of a digital assistant that may eventually ask for PTO.

Governance Scratchbook

A long-form attempt to think through governance, cybernetics, economics, democratic systems, and how institutions might be designed with fewer ritual sacrifices.
